Celebrity chef Guy Fieri has good taste in schools! He recently visited the Culinary Arts Academy at Lake Worth Community High School to donate $20,000 to the popular program.

The restaurateur, author and TV show presented the donation from his Guy Fieri Foundation. Fieri, who recently purchased a home in the Lake Worth Beach area, encouraged students to grow their culinary chops.

“Whether they want to be chief or not, it doesn’t matter. Cooking is a life skill that everyone should have, and I’m so impressed with how this program is going,” Fieri said. “I had heard good things about it before so having a first hand tour was great and hopefully we can contribute a bit more.”

Fieri toured the academy’s facilities, took photos with students and faculty, and answered student questions.

The district’s Culinary Arts program curriculum provides students with the opportunity to train for a variety of careers in the food service and preparation field. Students have the opportunity to compete in ProStart competitions and earn two industry certifications: the National Registry Food Safety Manager Certification and the ServSafe Certified Food Safety Manager Certification.

Academic and technical studies are integrated, emphasizing and building skills in food production and cooking, cost control, nutrition and sanitation, and workplace safety. Hands-on work experience emphasizes health and safety and includes quantity cooking, baking, menu development and food preparation. On-site restaurants and catering opportunities will further enhance front and back of house skills as well as restaurant management.
