Three generations of teachers recently gathered in the brand new family and consumer sciences classroom at Maple Valley Public School to savor the new space, new equipment – all meant to carry on a tradition of teaching life skills to high school students.

“People would recognize it as home economics, like when I was in school. I like to say, I teach anything you can imagine,” Rebecca Ausk, the current FACS teacher, told The Times-Record. “They make t-shirts, quilts, they make pillows, I can also say we have a project going the first hour, we cover dating and relationships… I’m in apartments and dorms with other classes, we do budgets, finances, and errands.
